Celebrating 60 years of Casio calculators

Celebrating 60 years of calculators

This year marks 60 years since we launched our first electronic calculator. Technology that continues to play a role in maths education. From the original Casio 001 to today’s fx-CG100 colour graphic, our calculators have supported teaching through curriculum changes, exam board updates and evolving classroom practices.

To the teachers and schools who have made our technology part of their lessons, we are proud to continue supporting education.

Our calculator story: 1965

Our story with calculators began in 1965 with the launch of our first electronic model, the Casio 001. Designed for basic arithmetic like adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing, it was a desktop calculator that opened up a lot of new possibilities. This early step paved the way for what came next. Sixty years later, calculators are fundamental for maths education and this year we are proud to introduce the fx-CG100 graphic calculator.

1965 — First electronic calculator, the Casio 001.
1972 — The Casio Mini, the world’s first compact, portable calculator.
1985 — Release of the Casio fx-7000G, the world’s first graphic calculator.
1990s — Scientific and graphic calculators became more popular and start being used in schools around the world.
2000s — Development of colour screen calculators like the fx-CG10 and fx-CG20 series.
2015 – ClassWiz series arrives, an updated line of scientific calculators
2017 — Launch of the fx-CG50 graphic calculator with high-resolution colour display.
This year — You spoke, we listened. Launch of our first ClassWiz colour graphic, the fx-CG100.

2025 – Introducing ClassWiz CG

This year we bridged the gap between scientific and graphing calculators by introducing the fx-CG100. The first colour graphic ClassWiz calculator. With a standardised user interface, it is seamless transition from scientific to graphing models, students can navigate effortlessly, no need to relearn.

Performance you can count on – reliable and built for ease of use.

We know that students should spend their time learning, not adapting to new technology. That’s why our latest model offers:
• A seamless transition from scientific to graphing calculators
• Less time spent relearning navigation and more time focusing on studies
• A familiar, user-friendly experience that stays consistent across devices

What’s next?

Casio continues to support schools, teachers and students. As teaching evolves, so does our technology. Our calculators are developed to stay aligned with how students learn and how teachers teach. We’re focused on making things simpler, consistent and more intuitive. Our calculators may change in features and design but our aim stays the same, to support learning and support teachers.
