How to reset a calculator
All users – including teachers and students of both GCSE and A-level maths – should
feel confident that they know how to reset a Casio calculator.
This knowledge comes in useful when you want to restore your device to its default
settings and clear the handset of all previous entries and calculations.
Steps to reset a new ClassWiz calculator
As detailed in the below video, you have three options when it comes to resetting a
scientific calculator in the new ClassWiz range.
Option 1: Complete reset
To completely reset your calculator, perform the following steps:
Step 1:
Choose any app on the home screen
Step 2:
Press the Settings key and choose Reset from the menu
Step 3:
Select Initialize All, then choose Yes to complete the reset, or choose Cancel to abandon the reset
Option 2: Reset keeping variables
If you want to reset your calculator but keep the values stored in the handset’s variable memory, start by completing the first two steps above.
Then, when you reach the reset menu, select Settings & Data, then choose Yes to complete the reset and return to the home screen.
Option 3: Reset variables only
You can also choose to only delete values from the handset’s variable memory when resetting your calculator.
Complete the first two steps above, then select Variable Memory in the reset menu
and choose Yes. In this case, you will be returned to the last app you were using,
rather than the home screen.
What does resetting a calculator do?
What does resetting a calculator do? A full reset of your calculator clears all previously stored variables, entries and calculations, and returns settings – such as whether you have the angle unit set to degrees or radians – to default.
Option two above clears all settings and data except for variables, meaning you will still have access to values previously stored in the letter memory. Option three lets you delete these variables and keep all other settings and data unchanged.
Knowing how to reset your calculator can be useful if you’re experiencing problems or unexpected results when performing calculations. It lets you clear any previously saved data, calculation results or settings that could be the source of the issues you’re experiencing.
The video and steps above describe how to reset a model in the new Casio ClassWiz scientific calculator range, which comprises the fx-83GT CW, fx-85GT CW and fx-991CW.
Other types of calculator that can be reset
It’s also possible to reset a graphic calculator. If you’re using the fx-CG50, for
example, you can restore the handset to its original mode settings by performing
the following steps:
Step 1:
Open the main menu and enter System mode
Step 2:
Press F5 (RESET)
Step 3:
Press F1 (SETUP) and then press F1 (Yes)
Step 4:
Press EXIT, then MENU to return to the main menu
When you press F5 to open the reset menu, you’ll see that as well as restoring the
calculator to its initial settings, you have options to delete main memory data, add-in
applications, add-in languages and storage memory data.
