Introducing ClassWiz+: find out what you need to know
By Amarpreet Singh Kular
Following the launch of the fx-CG100 graphic calculator in the spring of 2025, the past year has proven to be an exciting one for us at Casio Education, and we hope for teachers, schools and students too.
Our latest announcement relates to our scientific calculators and the unveiling of three new models, all under the banner of ClassWiz+.
What is ClassWiz+?
ClassWiz+ is a new series of handsets that will be part of our wider ClassWiz calculator family. The range features a number of requested improvements in functionality, as well as broader changes designed with sustainability in mind.
It comprises:
- fx-83GT CW+: Our entry-level scientific calculator with upgraded menu operations.
- fx-85GT CW+: The ECO model, made from 45% to 90% recycled materials, plus solar power and the same functionality and updated operations as the fx-83GT CW+.
- fx-991CW+ UK: A UK-specific version of our most advanced scientific calculator, now with more capabilities and solar power.
The launch of ClassWiz+ is part of our ongoing mission to not only listen to teachers and students, but act on the feedback you’re giving us.
We know the vital role Casio calculators play as learning tools in countless classrooms, which is why we’re always working to make our technology as reliable and useful as possible.
So, what exactly is changing?
Improvements across the ClassWiz+ range
We’ve made a number of notable improvements that will apply across all models in the ClassWiz+ series.
That includes a change to how the Format key works. Based on teacher feedback about the number of key presses required for common classroom tasks, the updated Format key now lets you perform a standard-to-decimal conversion with just one press. Shift > Format allows you to view equivalent conversions into different formats.
Speed and efficiency were also the chief considerations behind other ClassWiz+ modifications, including the introduction of shortcuts in all menus. That means all you have to do is press the relevant number next to the command or operation you want, rather than having to scroll down and select it.
What’s more, we’ve added a new Shift > Catalog navigation option. This gives instant access to a list of all useful functionality, removing the need to go through the menu.
As a result, it’s quicker and easier to access the most common commands you’ll need when performing calculations involving, among other things:
- Percentage sign
- Greatest common divisor (GCD)
- Least common multiple (LCM)
- Absolute value (Abs)
- NcR
The ultimate UK scientific calculator: fx-991CW+
The fx-991CW+ is the most powerful model in the range and has been designed and optimised for UK curriculums.
Changes being introduced as part of the ClassWiz+ launch are designed to make this device more capable and useful in the classroom.
Specifically, we’ve expanded what the calculator can do by adding functionality from entry-level scientific handsets that teachers told us would be helpful, such as GCD, LCM and recurring decimals.
This adds to the range of features that are exclusive to the fx-991CW+ within the ClassWiz scientific range, such as:
- Equation solving
- Matrix arithmetic
- Numerical calculus
- Complex numbers
- Derivatives
Sustainability in mind
The sustainability of the products they buy is a big consideration for many people. According to research by Ipsos, two-thirds (66%) of British consumers rate the environmental impact of a product, service or brand as an important factor in their purchasing decisions.
This is a key theme at the heart of the ClassWiz+ launch, specifically in relation to the fx-85GT CW+, which features between 45% and 90% post-consumer recycled (PCR) materials.
PCR plastic is made from products that have been previously used and disposed of, meaning it helps to reduce waste and virgin plastic usage.
We’re also excited to reveal that the fx-85GT CW+ ECO range will feature handsets in brand new colours, with a green model being made available for the first time in the UK.
Support for you and your students
As the new ClassWiz+ models start to appear in classrooms, you’ll continue to see the sort of support you’ve hopefully come to expect from Casio Education.
For starters, ClassPad – our online teaching and learning environment featuring calculator emulators – will support both ClassWiz and ClassWiz+ devices. Teachers in the UK, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man and Ireland can request a free licence to use ClassPad in their classrooms.
It’s also important to note that all ClassWiz and ClassWiz+ handsets essentially operate in the same way and have the same fundamental logic. This means there should be minimal disruption to lessons if you’re teaching classes using a mix of calculators from both ranges.
Keep an eye out for more support and resources becoming available very soon, including 20-minute webinars covering the most important points about the new calculators and more in-depth training webinars due to go live in the summer term.
We’re also producing a new playlist of Key Skills videos that you can use to learn about new features, show in class or set as flipped learning.
